Last Friday, Lions Sports Academy attended an ISA U11 Schools Rugby Tournament at Bedford Athletic RFC. The tournament was hosted by Rushmoor School, who we had previously encountered at a similar tournament at Littlegarth School on the Wednesday and we were honoured to have been asked to perform a skills workshop throughout the tournament.
Including Rushmoor School, there were 10 teams from all over the country that attended and the skills shown by all of the teams were fantastic and the entire tournament was played to a very high standard.
Lions were given the opportunity to perform a 15 minute skills workshop, ran by our CEO Andy Jones, for each of the schools present and it allowed them to work on a specific area of their game during the workshop. The workshop was run in an energetic and fun manner with the kids practicing their specific skills through fun games of touch, with Andy altering the rules so that it would focus specifically on one skill area. Some of the different skills in which the schools asked to practice included rucking, tackling, handling and support lines.
As well as a Lions skills workshop, each school also had the opportunity to have a short skills session, that featured practicing passing skills, with the Northampton Saints Academy.
It was a pleasure to meet the kids and staff from all of the schools and to be able to help them further learn and develop some of rugby’s key skills and provide them with exciting activities throughout the day.
After attending two tournaments last week, Lions Sports Academy are very excited to hopefully attend more soon and be able to perform more skills workshops for schools.
