Lions Sports Academy Schools Tag Festival A Success

It is all about having fun & allowing kids the opportunity to play rugby. This is what happened on Wednesday at Guildford Rugby Club, when Lions Sports Academy held a tag rugby festival for some of the schools in the local area.

Starting at 4pm & running till 6pm, the tournament was contested by pupils from local schools in years 3, 4, 5 & 6. The schools that attended with teams were from Losely Fields Primary School, Queen Elizabeths, Holy Trinity, Northmead Junior School, Busbridge, Send, Burpham, Shottermill Junior, St Cuthberts, & St Joseph's.

With each team being made up of 7 players a side, the tournament was played in great spirit & there was a lot of entertaining action on the pitch too. Considering some of the players had never played rugby before, it was tremendous to see such fantastic play from all the children. The tournament was fantastically supported as well, with many parents attending to support their children & their school. The overall capacity of the tournament was up near the 350 mark by the end with more & more people arriving as the tournament went on. At one stage we even had to open up the overflow car park to let more cars in as the normal parking area was full up. This just shows what a great turn out it was from everyone involved.

It was a fabulous afternoon & one in which we are very proud to have hosted. We hope that we will have the opportunity in the future to put on another tournament like this & to make the next one even bigger & better than this one.
