Lions Sports Academy kicked off the festive holidays by hosting two fantastic events, a girl's masterclass and a mixed camp at Horsham RFC & Aylesbury RFC!
They were two amazing events that entertained all who attended and gave everyone a day of fun-filled activities that brought out some excellent skills. The Girls Masterclass was split into four different areas (Forwards, Backs, Scrum Halves & Kicking) and each of the different areas was led by position-specific coach. The brilliant quartet of Leanne Riley (England & Harlequins), Jade Konkel (Scotland & Harlequins), Holly Myers (Harlequins) & Ellie Green (England U20 & Harlequins) were trusted with the coaching for the day and they did not let us down as they ran the kids through their paces and made sure they created a fun-learning environment for all the girls! There were some excellent skills on show in the different areas and lots to look out for in the future!
At the end of the masterclass, Holly Myers, said "Today has been an absolute pleasure. It was great fun to led the backs today and give the girls the chance to improve on their backs play and learn different skills. The girls were amazing, they listened hard and were really eager to get stuck in and have a go at everything. I would just like to say thank you to Horsham Rugby Club for letting us host the masterclass here today and use the amazing new 3G pitch they have just had installed. This was Lions first masterclass ever to be held at Horsham RFC and I don't think it could have gone any better and I hope we get the opportunity to come back again and put another great session on'.
Elsewhere, Lions also hosted a mixed rugby camp at Aylesbury RFC on their 3G pitch. It was a great day that involved a number of different fun activities. These involved passing (2 on 1s, 3 on 2s), tackling, kicking & fun games such as a speed race & connect four that involved the kids being split into two teams. There was also a quiz during the lunch break that was great fun and seemed to bring out lots of laughs from the girls & boys.
Wasps and Ex-England Sevens player Katie Mason, who was leading the session, said: "Despite the cold and windy weather, it was a very fun day and all the kids seemed to throughouly enjoy the day out. We like to get all the kids involved and play a number of fun activities to get them moving and active on a cold day like today. Its a pleasure to have the opportunity to use such great facilities and it is important because it allows us to get the best out the kids by playing fast, quick rugby that we might not have been able to do if we weren't to use the 3G. This is our second camp after the one in October, so we are definitly hoping to secure another one and make sure that we make it even bigger and better than today's event and we look forward to seeing everyone there"
Overall, it was a day to remember and we have two more camps coming up over the festive period and the new year, with a camp at Ely Rugby Club on 28th December and a masterclass at Chiswick RFC on 4th January.
There are still places remaining for our Chiswick masterclass so be sure not to be miss out and get yourself an early christmas present by signing up now.
