Two of Lions Sports Academies Ambassadors, Leanne Riley (Harlequins & England) & Vicky Fleetwood (Saracens & England) are among 28 players to have been awarded full-time professional contracts for 2019.
The RFU announced last September that they would be introducing new full-time contracts for women's 15-a-side players.
Lions are extremely proud and honoured to have two of our ambassadors picked to represent England Women's on a full-time basis and would like to wish them the very best going forward and hope they can continue to put in the sort of performances that have managed to get them to where they are now.
The introduction of full-time contracts to women's rugby is a huge step forward and it is sure to acclereate the development process. It is a massive opportunity for all those who are picked and Lions hopes that the team, along with Leanne & Vicky, can continue to progress and build towards the next World Cup in New Zealand in 2021, a tournament in which they will be one of the favourites to win.
The England Women start their professional era with an away trip to Dublin on 1st February, where they kick off their Six Nations Championship campaign.
