Three of Lions Sports Academy’s top coaches performed four days of coaching masterclasses at St Thomas’ School in Clapham this week.
Harlequins and England Scrum Half Leanne Riley, Wasps and England International Katie Mason and Harlequins winger Holly Myers each coached two specific skills blocks that focused on the pupils needs and the key areas affected by the rules for their age.
Leanne focused on 2 on 1 switches, dummy switches and the draw and pass, whilst Katie and Holly looked to get the pupils engaged in developing their tackling techniques as well as their communication around the ruck and setting a defensive line. Once the pupils had been coached through the skill blocks, they were then put through a conditioned game in which the specific skill areas could be further practiced.
The pupils were also able to enjoy a quick Q & A session with Leanne, Katie and Holly and ask them questions about their careers.
After the sessions, the school commented “The sessions were pitched exceptionally well and how they managed the boys was brilliant and clearly left a lasting impression them. We would just like to say thank you for their help this week; the boys loved having them and hope that they can come back soon”
If you like the sound of this, you can catch all three of them in action in The Tyrrell’s Prem 15s this season, as well as seeing Leanne over the next two weeks for England against Canada and Australia in the Autumn Internationals.
